Fireside Lodge Furniture Care
General Care Tips
- Lift items rather than dragging them across the floor. This preserves your furniture and your floor. If you are alone and can't do that by yourself, get gliders for your furniture where you can.
- Don't place hot items directly on your furniture. If something is too hot to hold in your hand, it is too hot for your furniture. This sort of mistake usually happens on tables, but still applies to desks, book shelves, filing cabinets, even chairs, couches and every piece of furniture you purchase.
- You should arrange your furniture so as to not be in direct sunlight and away from any heat sources such as heaters, stoves, fire pits, wood stoves and vents in the winter when your heater kicks on. If the wood dries out it may split.
- Humidity between 35 to 45 percent guards against shrinking, cracking or expansion. Humid environments such as basements should be avoided with out the proper dehumidifier equipment. Extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations can damage wood.
- Fireside Lodge does not recommend glass tops on solid wood because it restricts the normal exchange of moisture and could damage the wood surface. The use of glass tops will void the product warranty should structural damage occur.
- IMPORTANT: Like all wood surfaces, Do Not leave any liquid for a period of time on table tops, desks, file cabinets or any other wood surface.
- If you are installing a sink in a vanity top, please be sure to seal the freshly cut wood edges with a lacquer or polyurethane to properly seal the unfinished wood grain.
- Please note that all Fireside Lodge Furniture is designed to be kept indoors unless otherwise noted. Being exposed to the outdoor elements of temperature and humidity fluctuations, and direct sunlight will impact your furniture's finish and longevity.
A note on cleaning and disinfecting
Cleaning refers to removal of germs, dirt and impurities from the surface. It does not kill germs, but by removing them, it lowers their numbers and the risk of infection.
Recommended cleaning:
Please, NO CHEMICALS such as bleach, Windex or silicone based cleaners or polishes. NO ABRASIVES, or polish. For cleaning simply use a damp white cloth followed by a soft dry white cloth. Colored clothes may leave dyes on your furniture.
Additional cleaning options include:
- A detergent solution designed specifically for wood floors. Make sure all moisture is wiped fully dry or to a level that will evaporate rapidly.
- Use 0.5% solution of a dish washing soap designed for hand washing dishes, again, making sure all moisture is wiped fully dry or to a level that will evaporate rapidly.
- Polishes intended for wood, such as Orange Oil may be used infrequently.
DISINFECTING
- We do not recommend bleach, alcohol or disinfectant cleaners applied by spray.
- If you feel disinfecting is required, we recommend using hand wipes such as Clorox or Lysol disinfecting wipes.
- PLEASE NOTE: Using chemical cleaners WILL decrease the lifespan of the finish and Fireside Lodge Furniture can not honor warranty claims for improper care of their products.
